5th MAY -1999:
It’s a blistering hot summer…everything seemed static as if even the shadows have gone for a hiding and a tiring chirpy sweet voice of a rather restless 5 year old Anubha welled up
Anubha: Mamma…Mamma
Anukriti: (Seemed distracted…turned towards Anubha) What happened?
Anubha: Mamma…Ice ceaam…
Anukriti: (Disgruntled…sprained her eyes towards the Ice Cream Vendor) one butter scotch please.
Anukriti took the ice cream and handed it to Anubha... Anubha held the ice cream close to her mouth suddenly saw a girl of about her age in ragged clothes seated on the pavement opposite her, staring at her with pleading eyes. Anubha felt uneasy and went straight to the girl, handed her ice cream to that poor girl and ran back to her mother who was speechless seeing her.
Anubha: Mamma let’s go
Anukriti though didn’t speak anything but certainly wasn’t pleased for something which Anubha couldn’t understand.
Later that day Anukriti told his husband Prakash about their daughter’s behavior…with an abject…I don’t understand Anubha…Today she gave away her ice cream to a beggar…if she wanted to give something she should have asked me…I would have given her 5 rupees but an Ice cream worth of 30 rupees…if she is going to be like this…god knows what she will do when she grows up.
Anubha heard this but didn’t know what to say…so she kept mum.

ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Rajesh...for your kind words ...!!!
Deletewow Anjan you provoked me to go to whitespace .. what a start .. phata phati !! you know where to hit the chord of readers so well...
ReplyDeleteThat's an accolade for me...really comments like this evoke a sensation to write better each and every time i put my thinking cap on...!!!
DeletePlease remove the word verification Anjan, so much time goes in doing just that. For my prev comment i had to do it 3 times i don't know how many times i will have to do for this comment.
ReplyDeleteI have removed the word verifications...generally i don't keep it but spammers force me keep it in place...anyways i have removed it as of now...!!!
DeleteLoved the story Anjan. its beautiful and endearing.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot...for considering this article worthwhile...!!!
DeleteVery inspiring story , thanks for sharing this. Actually there are people who does not care to research about important subjects and do things based on their perceptions like it happens in the story you shared. Parenting is not an easy job and hence parents should do proper research and make honest efforts to make sure that the development of their children is in right direction. People don't do that and then treat their children like this which is wrong, its like unintentional bullying in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you...yes there's a large generation gap between children and their parents and this gap is not only about the age...and truly speaking age is insignificant...but the problem is with our thinking the way we see things and perceive...there's a lot difference between parents and children...and these minor conflicts in thinking accumulate and thus lead children to diverge them from their parents and thus mishaps happens...!!!
DeleteGood story! The little girl seems to be more matured than her mother.
ReplyDeleteChildren need guidance and in the absence generally go way ward...and the resultant was inevitable... wish she could have been more matured then her mother...!!!
Deletehmmmmmm
ReplyDeleteWhat does this really mean???
DeleteThis hmmmmm reminds me of a conversation with a friend...after speaking for around 10 mins...the only response i got was hmmmmm. i couldn't understand...whether it' was a positive or a negative one...might be he wasn't interested to hear ,may be he got bored or may be he got pissed off... or simply couldn't understand anything ...hmmmmm...generally makes me clueless...!!!
parents play are large role in shaping the future and thinking of their kids..if they themselves do not know what to teach their kids, we are staring at a bleak future for the world...very well written
ReplyDeleteThe problem as i see is not about teaching but understanding children...yes i agree if children don't get proper guidance the future is indeed bleak...thank a lot for liking my story...!!!
DeleteInspiring yet again Anjan! Truly one of your best!
