A cold jittery winter night in Pahalgam, India
Expecting father Mahesh was nervously meandering across the narrow stretch outside the Maternity ward. More than anything else he was worried whether it would be a boy or a girl.
Meanwhile her Wife Nandini though much in pain was hoping against hope that she be warded with a boy, knowing the fact that she is carrying a girl. She once felt of committing honour killing as she never wanted a girl as girl would mean all the suffering and probably much more than what she has to suffer. But weary of the laws of foeticide she decided against it. Soon the news of the arrival of baby girl made her senseless and an eerie spread all over Mahesh’s face when he heard about it.

DeleteVery beautifully written Anjan... I am speechless as I read this. I wish everyone around us understood this..
ReplyDeleteI also Hope the same...and wish we all change the way we think...!!!
Deletethanks a lot ME...!!!
Very well put. I hope people try to bring change in their mentality and the way we think.
ReplyDelete-Avichal
my blog
Thank you...Avichal...my intention were not just to cite the Delhi Episode (as if we open our eyes only when something cruel happens)...but many other equally brutal crimes...that we hear daily...and for that to change...there's a need for a revolution...hence...i came up with this post.
DeleteThanks a lot...!!!
ReplyDeletevery nice job! You have portrayed the miserable condition of women in India adequately. As you said the biggest problem lie in the mindset of people. Until it happens crimes against women are not going to stop. Yes, it is not going to change overnight but it has to start. strict laws are need of the hour. I agree that capital punishment is not the solution. There should be something which would remind these people about their crimes.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Prasoon...
Deleteyou have spoken the zest of my story...hope we will change and this revolution should start from every home in India and even Abroad....!!!
Thanks for sharing this story. Hope you read my experiences as a doctor in my blog. Please read - http://jeevankuruvilla.blogspot.in/2012/02/unwanted-girl-babies-and-sought-after.html
ReplyDeleteYes i am reading...your posts...you know i am born and brought up in a very small town in Jharkhand and therefore i know it very well how these things are spread across in those areas...!!!
DeleteNice read.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot sir...!!!
DeleteWaiting to read the next part, Anjan. Priceless blog...and came at the right hour!
ReplyDeletethat's the entire blog...i suppose you have missed the link some how...!!!
DeleteVery Nice Blog..!
ReplyDeleteThank you sir...!!!
DeleteI came to your blog from indiblogger. I read your guest article and was about to promote your post with a positive comment until I came across the line "as long as these eunuchs would survive".
ReplyDeleteripping their genitals off don't make them eunuch. eunuch are born just like other humans, be it male or female. there is no doubt that they are humans too and have every right to live just like others! from that line, you are conveying how much you hate eunuchs just like rapists hate girls! i'm not sure if that is what you wanted to convey, but if you don't mean it, its better to rephrase your sentence as it gives a wrong impression to the reader.
I have no intention to throttle down any group of people...the reason being i used that term only because...i was pained to call them as humans...or males...committing such heinous crime...
DeleteAs far as the punishment goes...i think that's the ideal punishment for them...and i will stand by my thoughts...and would speak for it...even if the entire world stands against me and cite for morals...as for what they did they don't get any mercy whatsoever.
i totally agree...with your statement...forget about humans...even if i call them from any of animals name it would be an insult to animals as well...i am sorry for giving such impression through my blog...my intentions were to demean those criminals and it's a worth to categorize them as what i did as if they are given such penalty they wouldn't be able to create any such crime what they did...
sorry but it's not meant to downgrade any social group but the entire intentions were to demean the worth of rapists...and i suppose you couldn't get the meaning therein ...i stand by my thoughts.
If i am calling someone's act insane...that doesn't mean...i am criticizing all those who are suffering from mental problems...neither does it indicate i hate those people who are mentally ill...
Deleteit only means i am categorizing their acts to be looked down upon.
That's a great Post anjan
ReplyDeletePeople's thinking need to be changed.i stick with you by the way you handled such a difficult scenario.
Totally agree with you on each and every thought. loved your last comment also.
Thanks a lot...thanks for your appraisal...
Deleteyeah i speak my heart always.
Found your post from Indiblogger. Good to see that new generation Indian youth like you are recognizing the barbarian gender divide that exist in our country and in the minds of the people. Its time for us to make a change. Thanks for supporting that cause with your write up.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot sir...
DeleteFor the past 3 years i was writing primarily on Love and relationships...it's not that i don't write on these topic anymore...but the present state of the country has forced me think over personal level and write for a cause...and this is my second attempt in this series...the first being A Revelation(based on debts of our parents)
And the support i am getting from comments like this makes me feel...yes i am going in the right direction...am really blessed by your comments and i hope more and more people join hands in a voyage to support for a novel cause of changing people's Mentality.
Your comment means a lot sir...!!!
What a story, Anjan. Salut.
ReplyDeletePlease don't make me feel belittle by these comments...i try to touch people's soul by my writing and if i could do that...that's enough for me.
DeleteGreat post and very touching !
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot...for your Appreciation...!!!
Deletegreat story...
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot IndianIdeas :)
DeleteI too wrote on the same lines though not as effective as yours. ..we dont want these words to just float around ...but yes we want to have concrete changes in the mindsets
ReplyDelete.Would love to have your feedback ...
I am floored by your comment...effectiveness is what people can enclave upon them to see the reality and the acceptance of any writing by the mass...
Deleteand yes my soul criterion was to change the mindset of the people...and i don't know how many people would have seen this topic as an inspiration to change their thinking at large...!!!
yes i going through to your post as well...!!!
